Lake Charles Prep Star Running Back Is Not Your Ordinary Citizen
Lake Charles Prep Star Running Back Is Not Your Ordinary Citizen
by Jace LeJeune
Back in the late 1980's, Tony Citizen was running away from defenders for McNeese State at running back. Fast forward 35 years later, another Citizen is taking the Lake Charles area by storm and it is his son TreVonte' Citizen. At 6-0, 218 pounds, there is a lot to like in the younger Citizen's game.
"When everybody talks about me, they see my size, but they really don't see my speed," TreVonte' Citizen said. "I would say my speed really sticks out."
For a guy his size running a 4.5/40, there is no wonder why this rising Lake Charles Prep running back is drawing attention from nearly every Power Five program in the country. As of now, the four star running back has received offers from Mississippi State, Penn State, Tennessee, Virginia, Maryland, Arkansas, Tulane, Louisiana Tech, LSU, Colorado, Southern Miss, Texas A&M, Georgia Tech, ULL, Texas, Arizona State, Memphis, Marshall, McNeese State, Auburn, Southern, USC, Michigan, Ole Miss, Washington State, and Grambling. With all those schools showing Citizen all this attention, it is a lot to keep track of. Luckily for the second generation running back, he knows his priorities when it comes to choosing a school during the recruiting process.
"I am looking for somewhere I can get a lot of playing time," TreVonte' Citizen said. "A lot of coaches told me that I could get some playing time early my freshman season on the field. That's something I like to hear, but I also am looking for a good education in sports medicine as well as a program that connects the coaches and the players."
The Class 3A All-State honorable mention has also grown up to be a big time Louisiana sports fan so receiving an offer from the flagship school in Louisiana was a special moment for the big time running back.
"I am a Louisiana boy so I have always loved growing up and watching LSU as well as the new-orleans Saints play," TreVonte Citizen said.
Although Citizen wants to play and make an impact early for whichever school he does decide to sign with, he is also taking the initiative to try and improve his overall game.
"I want to improve on my cuts at the top end this year," TreVonte' Citizen said.
Also, in order to improve his game, Citizen admires the play of Saquon Barkley (Penn State/New York Giants) as well as a fellow Class of 2022 running back from the Lake Charles area that is also very highly recruited in Jennings High School's Trevor Etienne.
"Trevor's definitely a next level running back," TreVonte' Citizen said. "When you look at him, he is fast, has good hands, can move, and everything else a running back can have."
The Lake Charles area is loaded with big time running backs in 2021, and it will be fun to see two great runners with famous family member running backs run for big yards their respective senior seasons.
Last season as a junior, Citizen had himself a great season leading the Trailblazers to a Class 3A Semifinal appearance rushing for 576 yards and eight touchdowns on only 56 carries while also posting 66 tackles, five tackles for loss, and a pair of forced fumbles and sacks on defense. Even though the numbers are impressive, there is only one thing on Citizen's mind for this upcoming season.
"I want to help get a ring for my team," Citizen said.
After coming up one game short of that goal, Citizen is willing to go the extra mile for that opportunity. It is also Citizen's will and track speed that makes him one of the most dangerous players with the ball in his hands. No matter where Citizen goes, he knows that he will help a team get one step closer to their goal.
"I am going to embrace the fans and will do anything in my power to help the team win a national championship," Citizen said.
It is TreVonte' Citizen's athleticism, track speed, power, and confidence that makes him no ordinary citizen.
