Live Oak Eagles' New Pass Rushing Duo Set To Take Flight In 2020

After going to a Week 3 matchup between the Live Oak Eagles and the Opelousas Tigers, our own recruiting guru Lee Brecheen came aways impressed with the Eagles' two impressive defensive ends in Kyle Kitto and Luke Cowart.

"I think Kyle Kitto has a lot of ability and what I like most about him is that last year, he was 6-3, 215 pounds, and this year, he is 235 pounds of muscle," Brecheen said. "He has that Joey Bosa (Ohio State/Los Angeles Chargers) type frame and can rush the passer pretty well with 4.8/40 speed, which is impressive. I think he could be a steal at the I-AA or small DI level. As for Luke Cowart, he is brand new from the baseball team. Like Kyle, he also has that Joey Bosa type build at 6-4, 250 pounds. He is put together and although he is raw, he has a DI frame and feet. Luke just needs to learn the game, but can be a guy that plays DI in the end. They are both very intriguing."

This is an intriguing defensive end duo because they have yet to really be put on the map. For Kitto, there are no schools that have offered him yet or have showed him any interests. On the other hand, Cowart is trying football for the very first time after spending the majority of his high school athletic career playing baseball after his coaches have convinced him to give football a try.

"Apart from the coaches, I didn't want to regret not giving football a try, and I'm so glad I did," Cowart said.

A big reason for Cowart's immediate impact on the football field plays hand in hand with his partner in crime on the opposite side of him.

"Kyle knows the game," Cowart said. "Kyle has speed and has great leadership skills. Just being able to work next to him has taught me a lot being he is one of the best defensive ends I've seen."

For the veteran Kitto, the feeling is mutual about the rookie.

"Luke is a big fast dude," Kitto said.

Seeing what Cowart is doing on the opposite side of him has motivated himself to get better as a defensive end.

"My biggest strength is my quickness, but I need to improve on getting lower," Kitto said.

Although Cowart has impressed both the likes of Brecheen and his teammates alike, he still feels that he has a long way to go.

"I feel like my motivation and my size are the biggest strengths to my game," Cowart said. "Being this is my first season to play football, I need to improve on staying lower and anticipating."

Both Kitto and Cowart want to improve on staying lower as guys that are both over 6-3 in height, but at the same time, they want to grow their game so they can get attention.

"I am looking for a where I can find out what I want to do with my future," Kitto said.

"If I'm lucky enough to receive a scholarship, I will definitely consider playing on the level," Cowart said. "My message to coaches looking for a player like me is this is my first year ever, and I am coachable. I give 110% and have soaked up every minute of this season so far."

The pass rushing duo of Kitto and Cowart has soaked up every minute and every snap. So far, with the team currently 2-1 on the young season, new head coach Blaine Westmoreland can sure count on his new pass rushing duo to close out games. Knowing that this duo is just getting started is certainly a scary thought for opposing quarterbacks on their schedule.
