Loyola Prep Senior Sam Szwak Willing To Play Wherever, Whenever

According to our recruiting expert Lee Brecheen, there are a lot of players that are playing out of position for the betterment of their team. One of those players is Loyola Prep senior Sam Szwak.

"Sam Szwak is really a linebacker playing defensive end for his team," Brecheen said. "Since he is playing defensive end, s need to look at his upside realizing that he is playing a position for his team and is not necessarily playing a position he will be playing in . In a way it hurts him because coaches won't be seeing what he does in space as a linebacker, but he is doing so for the team, which says a lot about him. He runs well, and I believe he can run a 4.7/40 and can easily play well with a 230 pound frame in ."

Currently at 6-3, 220 pounds, Szwak is slowly playing into his frame and showing his potential. For him, playing different positions is nothing new.

"I’m used to being switched at positions so if the coach needs me to play somewhere and thinks that’s where I’ll fit, that’s where I’ll play," Szwak said.

As of now, he has received one offer from Hendrix , but he has gotten his name out there to plenty of s.

"I’ve been in contact with one DI school, two or three D-IIs, and several D-III schools," Szwak said.

Szwak is plenty motivated to play football considering his dad David Szwak was a former walk-on for the LSU Tigers football team back in the early 1980's.

"Once you get him talking on it, you can’t get him to stop," Szwak said. "I’ve never been able to watch any tape on him, but he has plenty of stories."

The second generation Szwak is working to tell some of his own stories starting this season as his team is currently 1-1 on the season and looking for plenty of more success for the rest of the season.

"I’ve been impressed with our team," Szwak said. "Even though we took a tough loss last week, I think it was a learning experience for our young guys especially. We’re constantly working to earn what we have and knowing what we can achieve. I think self-confidence and constant work ethic are the two most important aspects of a team."

While the goals are to lead the Flyers to an undefeated district season, Sam Szwak is also looking to improve on himself individually.

"My biggest strengths are my technique and my work ethic," Szwak said. "I need to improve on my angles and getting stronger."

It is impressive that Szwak has already received an offer considering he has not even played the game of football just five years ago.

"Most people don’t know that I didn’t really begin playing football until freshman year," Szwak said. "I played for about three years in elementary school until a non-football related injury ended it."

Watching players like Joey Bosa (Ohio State/Los Angeles Chargers) on film has helped him get back on track despite the injuries.

"I like to model my game after Joey Bosa because of his relentless effort to the football," Szwak said.

Football is not the only sport that Szwak plays multiple positions at as there is another sport in which he shows his versatility.

"I mostly play outfield and 3rd base in baseball," Szwak said. "I’ve played baseball much longer than I have football, but I think the best thing it’s taught me is that if you keep doing your job and the right thing, the stats will follow."

Hopefully, the offers will follow for the Loyola Prep Flyer as he showcases his abilities not just on the gridiron, but in the classroom as well.

"I maintain as much effort on the field as I do in the classroom," Szwak said. "I am always looking for a chance to get better at what I do and learn new things. My outlook on the game, and my position is that you have to be relentless and you can always improve."

Sam Szwak is always trying to improve and be a coach's player. Along with having talent and potential, being a team first player will make sure to give this Loyola Prep Flyer a chance to take off.

Jace is from Addis, LA but resides in Port Allen, LA. Jace attends Southeastern Louisiana University and is majoring in Communications. This is Jace’s fourth year as Associate Editor at Louisiana Football Magazine. He is also a graduate from Catholic High School in baton-rouge where he was the editor of the school newspaper the “Bearly Published.” While at CHS, Jace also announced their football, basketball, and baseball games for the Bruin Broadcast Network which is the Catholic High’s streaming website for their events. On weekends, Jace is the PA announcer for his middle school football games. At home, Jace enjoys time with his family and friends.
