Recruit Spotlight: ATH Nathan Carriere, Catholic High Pointe Coupee, Class of 2018

by Crissy Froyd

Catholic-Pointe Coupee athlete Nathan Carriere is not an individual who will soon be forgotten after the dismissal bell rings on his last day as a high school senior.

Hornets head coach David Simoneaux spoke highly of his player describing Carriere as versatile guy that could do it all regardless of the sport.

“Nate is a tremendous competitor and a guy that brings incredible grit to each of the 4 teams that he plays for on our campus,” Simoneaux said. “Whether it be playing 120 plus snaps a game on the gridiron as a QB, FS, Kicker, and punter or diving on the floor for a loose ball on the hard court, you will not find a time that Nate is not bringing his personal best in a competitive environment.”

Per Simoneaux, Carriere brings the exact same work ethic when it comes to academics that he brings to the field.

“He is just as competitive in the classroom," Simoneaux said. "As a 4-sport athlete, he maintains a 4.0 GPA. When it comes to setting standard of excellence for our athletic program, Nate's example and legacy will outlive his playing days in the green and white. His leadership and tenacity helped will his team to back-to-back district championships and a 10-2 record his senior year.”

Carriere may not have an offer on the table in the meantime, but his ability to play football or baseball is not to be disputed. He has expressed interest in LSU, LSUE and ULL so expect to see him making a push for those programs if given the opportunity.

“I’m kind of just hoping to see where I can go-football or baseball is fine," Carriere said. "I’ve been in contact with a few coaches, but I don’t currently have any offers in.”

Coach Simoneaux believes Carierre has everything it takes to play in in regards to both intangibles and his physical abilities.

“Nate has tremendous potential as a football player because of all the intangibles he possesses, but also physically he is a kid that still has his best playing days ahead of him,” Simoneaux said.

“Nate is pushing 6-foot-1, and is hovering between 175 and 180 pounds. His shoulders are extremely broad and he has great length in his extremities. He projects extremely well as an outside linebacker & nickel guy," Simoneaux said. "He has played man coverage, he has played in the box for us, and he has played on the hash. He has produced at every single one of these spots. Most recently, he played in the Red Stick Bowl amongst 1A-5A talent and was recognized the Most Valuable Skill Player for his team throwing 5 TD's. His 10th-12th grade football stats are extremely impressive.

On his high school career, Carriere boasts 254 total tackles, 1,677 yards rushing, 1,686 yards passing and 3,457 yards of total offense. He’s scored 53 total touchdowns, has 261 career points, and also racked up 22 touchbacks kicking.

Carriere is a four-sport athlete, participating in football, baseball, basketball and track at the high school level.

While Carriere would love to continue playing sports as long as he can, he keeps things in perspective.

“I’d love to play football at the next level," Carriere said. "Just to have a career and get a degree is the number one priority in my life. I was thinking about going into mechanical engineering, but I also really like the idea of coaching. It would come down to those two.”

If anything, he says he will take away several life lessons from being a part of the team at CPC.

“It taught me mostly just hard work and staying the course," Carriere said. "Not getting discouraged even when it looks like things aren’t going to go your way. Keeping a positive attitude and coming to work every day. Just fight the good fight, you know.”
