Recruit Spotlight: WR JaMarr Chase, Archbishop Rummel High School, Class of 2018

The state of Louisiana seems like it is loaded with players at every position especially at receiver every single year. For this season, there are plenty of wide receivers that have a really good chance of making the NFL. Playmakers like Terrace Marshall Jr., Devonta Jason, JaRay Jenkins are guys that all have a great chance to one day make it, and those are only some names, but there may not be a more polished receiver in the state than Archbishop Rummel WR JaMarr Chase. A lot of receivers, especially coming out of high school, have one area to their game that they are strongest at, but need to work on other areas. However, Chase is one of those receivers that is extremely good at a lot of different things. He has the ability to out jump two or even three defensive backs for a jump ball and also has the play making ability to make things happen after the catch. On any given play, he can take a screen or a slant 70 yards for a touchdown. When he does not have the ball in his hands, he is just as effective as he does a great job of blocking in the run game. Chase is just a complete wide receiver and is a star in the making. Entering his senior season, JaMarr Chase is one of the best players in the entire state regardless of position because of his versatility. He has the entire package and can do basically about anything that you want him to do. Chase is trying to end his career as one of the greatest players in Archbishop Rummel history. Last season, he had almost 1,000 yards and 11 touchdowns. At the beginning of this season, he was recognized by us as he is on the cover of our South edition of the magazine and made our All-South LA team. Louisiana Football Magazine Editor and T.V. Host Lee Brecheen believes that the star receiver basically has everything that you need in a high NFL draft pick.

"JaMarr Chase is the most polished receiver in Louisiana," Brecheen said. "He can block, catch, run past people, and is a tough player. I love his demeanor to the game and gives it all out. He is a high energy player that you want in your offense."

It seems that all the big time DI teams want him in their offense. Teams like TCU, Florida, and LSU have gone after the talented four star wide receiver. Earlier in July, Chase was set to make his decision on NFL Network revealing to the entire nation which team he was going to take his talents to. Unfortunately for Chase, the network made a mistake and had to bump his decision. That decision could be a major effect for two teams for the next three to four years as Chase was going to announce his decision to commit to TCU, but with the network's miscue, he was able to reflect on that decision and ultimately, changed his mind to commit to the University of Florida. This had to be very frustrating for the Horned Frogs as they were not able to seal the deal to get Chase, but at the same time, the Gators have to be very jubilant to get a play maker like JaMarr Chase, who has the potential to just take over a game. In today's recruit spotlight, we caught up with the Florida commit as he talked about his high school career, the reason he chose the Gators over the Horned Frogs, what he has been working on the most over the off-season, and so much more!

LAFM: What is your name, position, and school you play for and why?

JaMarr Chase, WR, Archbishop Rummel

LAFM: What is your current height and weight?

6-1, 195

LAFM: What is your max bench press, max squat, vertical, and 40 yard time?

Bench: 300; Squat: 425; Vertical: 39; 40: 4.53

LAFM: What are the biggest accomplishments that you had over your career at Rummel?

I would say beating the receiving record at Archbishop Rummel was the biggest accomplishment of mine over my career.

LAFM: You were planning on to make your commitment on NFL Network and I believe you were going to commit to TCU, but the network decided to bump your decision. Now, you have decided to pick Florida over TCU. What was it about the Gators in those couple of days that helped you change your mind to picking Florida over TCU?

Well, I was going to make my decision and the network cut it off. I thought it was a sign to really look at my options. I took a visit to Florida and I fell in love with the place. They treated me like family and it really helped me make my decision to commit to Florida.

LAFM: You are on our South Louisiana team and are on the cover of our South Louisiana edition of our magazine. What does it mean for you heading into your senior season to be recognized as one of the best players in the state?

It is a great honor, but I try not to dwell and reflect on it. I try to stay focus and continue to improve on my game.

LAFM: What are the biggest strengths to your game?

My biggest strengths is getting separation from the defensive back because I know how to break their cushion.

LAFM: Louisiana Football Magazine Editor and T.V. Host Lee Brecheen believes that you are the most polished receiver in the state. However, everybody needs to improve on something. What are the biggest things that you work on in the offseason in order to bring your game to the next step?

I basically worked on getting out of my breaks. That is what I worked on the most over the off-season.

LAFM: The Archbishop Rummel Raiders are state championship contenders, but haven’t won a state championship since 2014. What does the team need to do this year to not only get back to the Superdome, but to win?

We need to focus on one week at a time and not worry about other teams until that time. We need to have everybody on page and do our job.

LAFM: What team or teams have you marked on the schedule and are most looking forward to playing against this season?

I am looking forward to playing John Curtis the most because they have beat us the last two years.

LAFM: Who is a wide receiver that you model your game after as well as watch film on and why?

I like to model my game after Stefon Diggs (Minnesota Vikings). I have been following his career since Maryland. He is just a player that has great speed and play making ability.

LAFM: What is the best game of your high school career so far?

I would say the U-High game because I broke the record that was set for two years.

LAFM: What do you like to do when the football season is over?

I like to relax for a couple of weeks and turn my attention to focusing on school.

LAFM: What are your goals for the season?

My goal is for the offense to have over 4,000 yards of offense and to have over 1,000 yards receiving since I did not get 1,000 yards last season. Also, we want to compete for a district championship as well as a state championship.

LAFM: You compete against a great defensive player in Aaron Brule every day in practice. How does he make you better as a receiver?

He is a very physical player that is always right in the backfield. Aaron just makes me player because of his competitiveness and how we are always competing against each other.

LAFM: What is your message to the Rummel team and the fans for this season?

Raider Pride!

LAFM: Who are some people in your life that you need to thank for helping you be in the position that you are in today?

I want to thank my Dad because he has always been with me every step of the way.

LAFM: What makes you stand out from all the other wide receivers this season?

My heart and just being able to play hard helps me stand out from all the other receivers in the state this season.
