The Baker Buffaloes Are Going to Rely on Their Senior Talent to Compete in an Extremely Tough District

Baker High School Head Coach Eric Randall has to compete against some of the most talented teams in the state each year in University Lab and West Feliciana, both of which won state titles in 2017. Going into his third season leading the Buffaloes, Coach Randall has a team that has the talent and experience to compete in a talented district.

One of the major returning contributors to the offense in 2018 is senior WR Bryant Williams. Williams is a playmaker on the outside and looks to be a leader on the team.

“I want to step up and be a leader and make big plays for the team,” Williams said.

Louisiana Football Magazine's own recruiting specialist Lee Brecheen thinks that Williams can do just that.

“Williams is a big time athlete for the team,” Brecheen said. “He is a very fast, fluid runner with the toughness you look for in a player. I think he is a diamond in the rough when it comes to recruiting.”

It might be hard to think that the passing game is not the strength of the offense with an athlete like Williams on the outside but the strength is actually their running game.

“Our biggest strength is our running game with three very athletic backs in Kiley Clifton, Desmond Windham, and Javouris Knox,” Williams said.

Blocking up front for the running backs is OL Nelson Griffith. He is a big blocker standing at

6-1 290.

“Griffith has good feet and is a tough, strong kid,” Brecheen said. “He has size and could play guard or center in . He would be a steal for a I-AA or D-II program.”

The Buffalo defense will be led by DE Camryn King. King is a 6-2, 215 pound senior with some speed. He will be a nightmare for opposing offenses this season.

“King is a very athletic defensive end/linebacker for the team,” Brecheen said. “He can really run for a lineman with a 4.65/40. He has a frame that will allow him to get bigger and a strong showing his senior season would go a long way for him in recruiting.”

Ladarien Scott will lead the next level of the defense. He will anchor down the middle of the field as a linebacker. Scott is excited about how the has improved so far this season.

“The defensive line is strong and versatile which makes the linebackers job easier,” Scott said. “Our linebackers have improved as well as far as reading guards, flow of the backfield, and dropping into pass coverage.”

“He has good size and can run well,” Brecheen said of Scott. “He is 6-1, 215 and can be a defensive end or middle linebacker in .”

Bryant Williams is not only a playmaker on offense but he is also a big part of Baker’s secondary as well. In Week 2 against Dunham High School, Williams had an 80-yard interception return for a touchdown.

The coaches are doing their part in preparing every player for the challenging schedule. It is up to the players to go out on the field and execute.

“The coaches have prepared us by making practice have the atmosphere of a game,” Williams said. “Practices are loud, we cannot hear anything which helps us communicate with each other while on the field.”

Scott had something similar to say. “Our coaches create a hostile environment at practice to help us deal with uncomfortable positions.”

Having played two games up to this point, Baker has learned what they need to do to be successful.

On defense, Baker has learned to give it their all. “We have learned to never underestimate our opponent and 100 miles per hour and think throughout the whole game,” Scott said.

“So far we have learned how to be consistent on every drive,” Knox said of the offense.

Being consistent on every drive will mean that they are giving it their all each and every play. If each player continues to do that for every game the rest of the season, the Baker Buffaloes will have a successful campaign in 2018.

Cameron is from baton-rouge, LA. He graduated from Woodlawn High School in 2014. Cameron is now attending LSU where he is seeking a degree in Sport Administration with a concentration in commerce. Cameron joined the Louisiana Football Magazine staff in the summer of 2018 for his school internship. During the his days off, Cameron enjoys spending time with family and friends. Outside of being a football fan, Cameron also enjoys watching baseball and playing music.
