The Logansport Tigers Look Wide Receiver Jacob Contario's Way In Impressive Turnaround

The Logansport Tigers are used to contending for Class 1A State Championships, especially under head coach Kevin Magee. So when the Tigers started 0-4, there were a lot of fans that were shocked by the program's slow start. However, senior leaders like wide receiver Jacob Contario helped lead the turnaround and now, the Tigers are not only undefeated in district, but have won five straight games.

"At first, everybody was not on the same page," Contario said. "We made some adjustments on defense by putting me at corner and changing some people around. We started playing as a team and with a lot more effort and confidence."

That effort and confidence was carried on by the ever confident Contario as the 6'4, 185 pound receiver has won his fair share of jump balls. Contario, who was featured on the front cover of the North Louisiana Football Magazine edition, has 646 yards and eight touchdowns with one more regular season game left to go. His ability to not only catch the jump ball, but do so in traffic and having good field vision in the process makes him one of the best wide receivers in North Louisiana.

What has also helped the talented Logansport receiver step up his game over the years is his experience running multiple events for his track team.

"Definitely, the high jump and hurdles help me with jumping while the mile and 4x4 help me with my insurance," Contario said.

Despite Contario's physical skills including his big frame, 4.6/40 speed, and 30 inch vertical, he has not received any offers as of now. However, he is hoping to continue his great play into the playoffs where s could notice him even more.

"I give myself a A minus because I have only dropped around two to three balls this season," Contario said. "I get the job done on blocking and catching the ball in crunch time when the team needs a big play."

The Tigers will be looking Contario's way once again once the playoffs start. For Contario, it will not be a surprise to run into West St. John as he has played the Rams in the playoffs the last three seasons.

"West St. John is always a good rivalry and an intense game," Contario said.

Playing great competition like West St. John as well as other teams like St. Mary's will hopefully help Jacob Contario as he takes on the level.

"I'm tall and big bodied," Contario said. "My hands are 9 inches wide and I will catch anything that comes my way. I have fast and quick feet. I am great in school and great off the field. I am going to stay hungry to get better and improve myself."

The Logansport Tigers will continue to go Jacob Contario's way in order to clinch the district title as well as make another deep run in the playoffs.

Jace is from Addis, LA but resides in Port Allen, LA. Jace has graduated recently from Southeastern Louisiana University with a major in Communications. Jace has also broadcasted games as a play by play announcer for Southeastern’s football and basketball games on ESPN Plus. Also, Jace has anchored and reported on Southeastern’s award winning show “The Big Game.” Finally, Jace has been hired to be the Voice of The Episcopal Knights for Varsity Sports Network. This is Jace’s fifth year as Associate Editor at Louisiana Football Magazine. He is also a graduate from Catholic High School in baton-rouge where he was the editor of the school newspaper the “Bearly Published.” While at CHS, Jace also announced their football, basketball, and baseball games for the Bruin Broadcast Network which is the Catholic High’s streaming website for their events. On weekends, Jace is the PA announcer for his middle school football games. At home, Jace enjoys time with his family and friends. Besides being a huge football fan, Jace is also an avid NHRA drag racing fan.
