West Feliciana Saints Quarterback Bennett Clement Thriving In New Coach's System
West Feliciana Saints Quarterback Bennett Clement Thriving In New Coach's System

In the baton-rouge area, it seems that the perfect marriage has come together between new West Feliciana High School head coach Hudson Fuller and veteran quarterback Bennett Clement. Not only have the Saints improved in the win column by already eclipsing last season's win total with four victories already in 2020, but Louisiana Football Magazine's recruiting expert Lee Brecheen has already seen a big turnaround for Clement's third year as a starter.
"Bennett Clement is about 6-1, 180 pounds and I have seen him play since his sophomore season," Brecheen said. "I have seen him play five games over his career, and what he has had since the beginning has been his leadership, calmness, and awareness along with great touch on the ball. I think the only thing he needs to work on is the long ball. He has already mastered the hardest part, which is the underneath routes. Overall, he makes great decisions and is calm in the pocket. I love how he steps up in the pocket and makes some great throws. He could be a great quarterback at the I-AA or D-II level in the end or who knows, possibly could become a great DI quarterback down the line."
Right now, Clement plans on becoming a DI baseball player as he has committed to LSU Eunice as a centerfielder.
"After talking to Coach Alan Orgain many times, I felt like that this is the best place for me right now," Clement said. "It is a great school and great culture. Many friends that I have played many years with are going with me. I think we would have a good chance of being a great team in the upcoming years."
For now, Clement is looking to make the West Feliciana Saints a winner as well. After a 4-2 start, Clement and the rest of the Saints have high aspirations heading into the postseason.
"My thoughts on the team's 4-2 start is that we still have a lot of room to grow," Clement said. "We need to buy into the plan and learn the plan Coach Fuller has."
The plan that Clement has referred to immediately made the Saints explosive on the offensive side of the football scoring 21 points or more in every game so far this season.
"I look at Coach Fuller as another father figure," Clement said. "I feel like he is teaching me not only a lot about football, but he is teaching me about life. Coach brings a new standard and culture that if we buy into it, can be a great offense."
Clement's skillset as a baseball player has not only helped him make the transition to football, but has also made it easier to run Coach Fuller's system.
"My hand eye coordination, my arm strength, and the shape I am in is what I got from baseball to football," Clement said. "However, it is not only my arm strength as a football player, but it is also my ability to throw on the run and my pocket presence that helps me stand out."
It is also his athleticism that stands out also receiving offers to play football as well.
"I’ve had a couple schools reach out, and Louisiana has offered me," Clement said.
Although Clement is completely committed to playing baseball in , football is still a possibility in his mind.
"If the right came around and after a talk with my family, if we feel it is the best place for me to play and grow," Clement said.
Clement has plenty of options, and it does not come as a surprise as his grandfather Don Norwood was a part of the 1958 LSU National Championship football team and played for both the Denver Broncos and Boston Patriots while his aunt Maggie Norwood played volleyball at LSU.
What also will not come as a surprise if both Bennett Clement's talents will be seen on the diamond and the gridiron for a program soon.
